Waveform Saturator and Exciter

Hot Sauce is a non-linear gain processing plug-in from Raising Jake Studios that adds harmonics to a signal while reducing peaks, similar to tape saturation or push-pull power amplifiers. A second mode of operation, Exciter, adds harmonic detail without compressing the source signal. Hot Sauce is internally oversampled at all input sample rates from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz for minimal aliasing side effects.

Two Modes of Operation

In Saturator mode, Hot Sauce provides smooth waveform compression that adds odd harmonic distortion while compressing the waveform. In Exciter mode, it adds odd harmonic distortion without compressing the waveform, producing a brighter, more excited sound. It can thicken a source, raise average levels without the typical pumping side effects of compressors and limiters, or increase brightness.

Where to Use It

Use Hot Sauce before compressors or limiters to help control transients so that less compression is needed, after compressors and limiters to add consistent harmonic content, on any source as a saturation or distortion effect similar to tape compression, or as an exciter that adds harmonic content without compressing the signal.
