Illinois Jacquet was a groundbreaking American tenor saxophonist best known for his electrifying solo on "Flying Home," which is widely regarded as the first R and B saxophone solo. As a key figure in shaping the honking sax style, Jacquet influenced both jazz and early rock and roll. He co-wrote the jazz standard "Don'cha Go 'Way Mad" and stood out for his melodic improvisation across lively tunes and ballads. Remarkably, he also played the bassoon, making him one of the few jazz musicians to feature the instrument.
