Kim Wilde, born Kim Smith in 1960, is an English pop singer best known for her breakthrough hit “Kids in America” from 1981. She became one of the most successful British female solo artists of the 1980s, earning a Brit Award in 1983. Her chart successes include “Chequered Love”, “You Came”, and a cover of “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”, which reached number one in the US. Over her career, she scored seventeen UK Top 40 singles and released numerous other international hits. In addition to music, she later pursued a successful career in gardening, winning a gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show and presenting TV gardening programmes.
