Marta Kubišová, born in 1942, is a renowned Czech singer who rose to fame during the Prague Spring of 1968. She became a national symbol with her song "Prayer for Marta," which voiced resistance against the Warsaw Pact occupation. Winner of the Golden Nightingale award in 1967, Kubišová recorded over 200 singles before political repression led to a performing ban that lasted until 1989. Known also for her involvement in the Charter 77 movement, she returned to music after the Velvet Revolution, reissuing her classic album "Songy a Balady" and later collections of her earlier works.
