If a child is naturally attracted to different sounds and music from a young age, parents should pay attention. Almost every toddler enjoys banging on various objects, but if the child doesn't stop doing this even later in life, it's time to look around for an instrument to further develop their talent. Drums for children are the perfect choice. Do you know how to choose them?
How to choose the right drums for children

When it comes to buying a drum set, you can usually encounter two types of parents. The first one wants to buy the best quality set right from the start, meanwhile the second one is okay with anything that can be banged on with drumsticks. As with everything, there is a happy medium.

There is no need to buy your kid professional drums in a high price range. In this article, you will find a few parameters to guide your choice.

Size and tuning

It is important that the drums for children can be tuned, hold their shape and are the right size for the little drummer. To form the correct habits, the set should be neither too big nor too small.

Toy drums are not the best choice.

Space options

When choosing a drum set for your child, there are a few things to consider. Will the sound disturb the neighbours? Do you live in a house or a flat? Do you have a soundproof room for your child to practice in?

Drums are indeed a very noisy instrument. If your options are limited, reach for an electronic drum set instead. It is more compact and thanks to the possibility of connecting to headphones, you don't have to deal with any noise.

Are you wondering what types of drums there are? Read our article, in which we will answer the basic questions.

Muziker TIP:
If you've decided on a compact electronic drum set, consider the Alesis Debut Kit. These are suitable drums for children. All you have to do is assemble them, and you are ready to play.

Price

Buying a drum set isn't a small investment. Drum sets for children range in price from 150 to 400 euros. This depends on the size and especially on the brand of the set itself.

Comfort

Bass drum - the kick drum or just kick - is the largest drum placed on the ground. If you're buying a set for a child, for home practice a 18" or maximum 20" kick drum is enough.

A big kick drum means that the toms may be placed too high and it will be very tiring for the child to reach them.

Equally important is the size of the kick drum. Too big means the child will not be able to reach the pedals. Remember that playing the drums must be comfortable. Otherwise, the child will not stay interested for long.

Cymbals

Cymbals are not instruments that necessarily need to be adapted to children's needs. A hi-hat, ride or crash will do for a start.

Feel free to let your child choose the cymbals they like - by feel. This, too, can help them play comfortably and enjoy the learning process. However, keep in mind that the set should be smaller in size. That's why you should also size down when it comes to the cymbal diameter.

Acoustic drum sets

As long as you have studied the basic requirements for choosing drums for a child drummer, we recommend a few sets that meet them all.

The cheapest alternative

A cheaper choice of children's drum sets includes the Stagg TIMJR3-16B. The children's acoustic drum set consists of a bass drum, a tom-tom and a snare drum. In addition, the kit also comes with hardware, crash cymbal, drumsticks and a tuning key. This set is intended for children aged 5 to 8 years.

Bargain

Another great choice is Stagg Tim Jr 5/16B. The 5-piece drum set includes not only cymbals but also a stool. It consists of a bass drum, tom-toms, floor tom, snare drum, hi-hats and crash cymbal. There is also a pedal for the bass drum, stands, a pair of drumsticks and a tuning key. The kit contains everything a little drummer needs.

Top quality

The drum set DDRUM D1 Jr 5-Piece Complete Drum Kit is worth mentioning as well. It is considered the best choice for young beginners. This is one of the few sets that includes drums and hardware sized for a junior player, but it is handled with the same attention to detail as the higher-end drum series.

The set also includes a cymbal stand, hi-hat stand, snare stand, bass drum pedal and drum stool. There is also a set of hi-hat and crash/ride cymbals. This is by far the best drum set for little beginners you can get on the market.

Accessories

An essential part of every junior drummer's set is a metronome. To protect children's hearing, it is recommended to get children's ear protection headphones.

And since we are talking about a kid, a set of spare pairs of drumsticks should always be on hand. Do not hesitate and reach for the perfect children's drumsticks Pro Mark LA5AW LA Special 5A.
