Are you a beginner fisherman, getting ready for your first fishing trip? To make sure you won't miss anything and leave the pond empty-handed, we've prepared a few fishing essentials that even experienced fishermen recommend carrying with you.
The most important fishing tackle that every fisherman should have

Go fishing fully geared up, but remember: not only be considerate and fair to other fishermen, but also respect official regulations and recommendations. What should you definitely take with you at all times?

Good quality rod and reel

Whether you are going to use sinkers, or prefer float, spin or fly-fishing, your main focus should be on the rod, and whether it meets the quality requirements of the given fishing technique.

If you can't make up your mind, we've prepared an article for you to find out which factors are important when choosing a fishing rod.

The fishing reel should be chosen as carefully as the rod itself. The basic types of reels include the spinning reel, fly reel, multiplier reel and < b>baitrunner reel.

The spinning reel is universal and can be used for almost all types of fishing. The fly reel is particularly useful when catching smaller fish (and is suitable for fly-fishing); you can use the multiplier while fishing for bigger fish from a boat. Baitrunner reel has a rotating spool and is suitable for smaller fish.

Flavoured baits and groundbait

Fish are caught on bait, the effectiveness of which is improved by groundbait. The groundbait mixture is made to attract fish to a designated area and increase their appetite.

Popular flavoured baits include boilies. They are balls of hard paste that are attached to a hook or baiting needle. You can buy them or make them at home.

The most common use of groundbait is with the "feeder" technique, where the mixture is put into a special device called a feeder to attract fish. The hook is located close to the feeder.

Spare hooks, floats and sinkers

Hooks, floats and sinkers are types of tackle that every fisherman must have. At the same time, however, they are items which may break off the line and remain lost at the bottom of lakes and dams.

So don't forget to keep some spare pieces on hand to use when needed.

The functionality of the hook is key. There are many types and shapes of hooks that are used for different species of fish. Find out how to choose a hook and bait for specific types of fish.

Lights for night fishing

Evenings are one of the best times for fishing. The surface is calm, and it is easier to catch fish on bait.

Keep in mind, however, that if you decide to fish in the evening, your fishing spot must be properly illuminated.

The most popular light is a headlamp. You don't have to wear it on your head during the entire evening, but in dramatic moments it will make it easier to pull a fish out of the water. The adjustable intensity of the light beam is a pleasant advantage that you will appreciate when fishing.

Many lights have batteries that are also rechargeable with a power bank or in the car cigarette lighter.

An effective accessory to the headlamp is an additional red or green light, which does not disturb animals and fish and does not attract insects.

Muziker TIP:
If you're fishing at night, don't forget a fishing shelter, where you can hide during the cold night while you wait for the catch.

Fishing bite alarms

Bite alarms indicate whether the fish is still biting the bait or has already swallowed it. They are an excellent aid in all fishing techniques. Floats are usually used for float fishing, alarms and indicators when fishing for predators.

Bite alarm is a device that fishermen can't praise enough. However, it is not suitable for beginner fishermen as it is one of the most expensive pieces of fishing equipment. The alarm is mounted on a rod pod and the rod is placed directly into them. When a fish jerks the line, the alarm beeps.

Fishing chair

A good fishing chair increases comfort during fishing. It should be not only comfortable, but also functional.

The right choice would be to reach for a folding chair, which is lightweight, but at the same time has a high load-bearing capacity. If you're going fishing in colder weather, you'll appreciate it if it's insulated with fleece.

Rod pods

As it is natural that fishing may take a couple of hours, rod pods serve to place several rods cast in the water at the same time. However, each rod pod is suitable for a different surface and for catching different types of fish.

They are made of different materials – most often aluminium, steel or durable carbon.

If it is a tripod, you can put it even in small places. The height of the legs is often adjustable, and rugged terrain doesn't pose a problem for its stability.

If the pod has four legs, it is more stable even in sloping terrain, but requires a larger surface area for positioning. It is most suitable for catfish fishing.

Fishing sunglasses

You will appreciate fishing sunglasses when you go fishing in the river during the day. The sun often reflects unpleasantly on the water surface and almost blinds the fisherman. However, if you take high-quality polarized glasses with you, not only will the sun not to bother you, but you will also be able to see better under the water surface.

Fishing lines

Fishing lines represent a direct connection between the fisherman and the fish. They are an integral part of every fisherman's gear. However, their use depends on the preferred fishing technique.

Monofilament lines are mainly used for casting, braided lines are better for long distances, when the fisherman must have immediate contact with the fish – without elasticity – for the alarm to indicate a catch.

Fishing lines differ mainly in diameter. The thinnest ones start at 0.10 mm, the widest ones can have a diameter of up to 1.3 mm. Even though they are strong, thinner lines, which have a lower load capacity, they are easier to break. As the fish are lighter in the water, it is also possible to catch larger fish even with a thinner line.
