Europe is a Swedish rock band formed in 1979 in Upplands Väsby by Joey Tempest, John Norum, Peter Olsson, and Tony Reno. The band first gained major attention by winning the Rock-SM competition in 1982. Europe achieved international fame in the 1980s with their hit album The Final Countdown, which included the iconic title track and other successful singles like Rock the Night and Carrie. Over their career, they have released eleven studio albums and sold around 10 million records worldwide. Following a hiatus in 1992, Europe reunited in 2003 with a lineup now featuring Joey Tempest, John Norum, John Levén, Mic Michaeli, and Ian Haugland. The band has continued to release new music, including albums such as Start from the Dark, Last Look at Eden, and Walk the Earth. Europe remains active and gained renewed popularity in the United States after their music was featured in a national television commercial campaign.
