James Arthur is an English singer and songwriter who became widely known after winning the ninth series of The X Factor in 2012. His debut single, a cover of Shontelle's "Impossible," topped the UK Singles Chart and became the best-selling winners single in the show's history, with over 2.5 million copies sold worldwide. Arthur's first album, released in 2013, reached number two in the UK and included the hit "You're Nobody 'til Somebody Loves You." Following some controversy and a brief split from Syco, he signed with Columbia Records and later returned to Syco for his second album, Back from the Edge, in 2016. The album featured "Say You Won't Let Go," a chart-topping single with global success. Arthur's later albums, including You in 2019, solidified his reputation, and in 2021 he signed with Columbia Records after Syco's closure. Known for his emotive voice and heartfelt songwriting, Arthur continues to be a prominent figure in contemporary pop and soul music.
