Wampler The Compulsion Drive Guitar Effect
The Compulsion Drive (TCD) is Brian Wampler’s modern re-imagining of the iconic Fulltone OCD circuit, capturing its signature roar, sparkle, and touch sensitivity while adding expanded tonal flexibility. It delivers everything from articulate crunch to harmonically rich saturation and expressive leads, shaped through intuitive controls and a refined, dynamic design.
The Spirit of Distortion
Built on a drive architecture known for harmonic depth and amp-like feel, TCD preserves the character of the original while adding broader range and control. It reacts naturally to playing dynamics—shimmering when played lightly and driving into bold distortion with increased attack—behaving like a seamless extension of the amplifier.
Timeless Circuits, Total Control
The Gain control moves from edge-of-breakup to full distortion, supported by a three-band EQ for detailed shaping of lows, mids, and highs. The Level control provides enough output to push an amp or sit precisely in a mix. A Mode switch offers two clipping voices: a classic gain structure or a more aggressive, tube-like MOSFET response.
Inside, two DIP switches provide deeper customization. The Fat switch adds low-end warmth and weight, while the Diode switch engages an additional clipping diode for a tighter, more saturated feel. These options offer boutique-level versatility and access to multiple classic variations of the circuit.
Responsive Grit and Power
TCD enhances harmonic richness while keeping chords clear and single notes sustaining with definition. Its sensitivity to guitar volume and picking dynamics allows smooth transitions from clean to driven tones without adjusting controls. It also stacks well with boosts, overdrives, and fuzzes, unlocking a wide range of tonal combinations.
Crafted with Precision
Built in the U.S.A. with high-quality components, The Compulsion Drive is engineered for consistent performance on stage and in the studio. It stands as a carefully refined tribute to one of the most influential distortion circuits of the modern era, designed for players seeking expressive feel and versatile drive tones.
Тype: Distortion
Distortion is an effect that heavily alters the shape of the audio signal, producing a rich, aggressive, and saturated tone. It is used to achieve an intense sound with strong harmonic content and long sustain. Distortion is a key element in rock, metal, and alternative music, giving the guitar sound power, sharpness, and character.
True Bypass: Yes
It has a true bypass function, which ensures that when the effects are turned off, the signal passes directly through the unit without influence or degradation.
