The Mescaleros were a British band formed in 1999 to back Joe Strummer, the legendary frontman of The Clash. Known for their eclectic sound and multi-instrumentalist members, The Mescaleros released three albums before Strummer’s death in 2002. The original lineup featured Strummer on vocals and guitar, Antony Genn on guitar, Scott Shields handling bass, guitar and drums, Martin Slattery on keyboards, guitar, flute and saxophone, Pablo Cook on percussion, Steve "Smiley" Barnard on drums, and Richard Flack on various instruments. The group originated from Strummer’s soundtrack work with Pablo Cook and Richard Norris, and quickly evolved into a recording and touring band. Their music fused rock, reggae, and world influences, earning them wide acclaim during their brief but impactful existence.
