Exodus is an influential American thrash metal band formed in 1979 in Richmond, California. Widely recognized as pioneers of the Bay Area thrash scene alongside bands like Metallica and Testament, Exodus has been instrumental in shaping the genre. The current lineup features guitarists Gary Holt and Lee Altus, bassist Jack Gibson, drummer Tom Hunting, and vocalist Rob Dukes. Gary Holt stands as the band's central figure, appearing on all Exodus albums since joining in 1981.
Throughout their career, Exodus has faced frequent lineup changes, notable feuds, and two major hiatuses, but has remained a key force in thrash metal. Their breakthrough came in the 1980s with albums like Bonded by Blood, Pleasures of the Flesh, and Fabulous Disaster. After signing with Capitol Records, they released notable records including Impact Is Imminent and Force of Habit.
Following periods of inactivity and reunion, Exodus experienced a resurgence in the 2000s with albums such as Tempo of the Damned, continuing their legacy with consistent releases. Their eleventh studio album, Persona Non Grata, arrived in 2021, and the band is currently working on new material expected in 2026.
With over five million albums sold worldwide, Exodus is regarded as one of thrash metal's most enduring bands and a member of the genre's "Big Eight," continually influencing new generations of metal artists and fans.
