James Hugh Calum Laurie, born in 1959, is an acclaimed English actor, comedian, musician, and writer. He first found fame alongside Stephen Fry in the comedy duo Fry and Laurie, with notable work on the BBC series A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster. Laurie also became well known for his roles in the comedy series Blackadder. Internationally, he is best known for playing Dr. Gregory House on the medical drama House, a performance that earned him two Golden Globe Awards and widespread recognition as one of television’s most watched and highest-paid leading men. He later appeared in the acclaimed miniseries The Night Manager and in the comedy series Veep. Aside from acting, Laurie is an accomplished blues musician, releasing the albums Let Them Talk and Didn’t It Rain, both of which received positive reviews. He has also authored the novel The Gun Seller and has appeared in a range of films including Sense and Sensibility, 101 Dalmatians, Stuart Little, and The Personal History of David Copperfield. Laurie was honored with an OBE and later a CBE for his services to drama.
