KLH Model Seven Hi-Fi Speaker Stand Stand

The KLH Model Seven Slant Riser Base is the factory-original matte black steel plinth for the KLH Model Seven floorstanding speaker — the same base supplied with the speaker, offered separately as a spare or replacement. Its 3-degree upward tilt time-aligns the three-way driver array for a seated listener, and the heavy welded steel frame gives the flagship cabinet a stable, non-resonant foundation.

  • Sold as a single unit — order two pieces for a complete stereo pair
  • 3° upward slant — angles the woofer, midrange and tweeter toward the listening seat
  • Powder-coated steel, matte black — heavy-duty welded construction sized for a 35 kg cabinet
  • Adds roughly 12.7 cm of height — takes the Model Seven from 91 cm to 104 cm tall

KLH Model Seven Slant Riser Base — The Factory-Original Plinth for the Flagship

The KLH Model Seven Slant Riser Base is the matte black steel plinth developed for the Model Seven, KLH's flagship three-way acoustic-suspension floorstander. It is the same base that ships in the carton with the speaker, available here as an individual item for owners who need a replacement or who acquired a pair without the original stands. The riser measures approximately 445 mm wide, 165 mm high and 297 mm deep, and weighs close to 4.7 kg on its own — a reflection of how much steel is needed to carry a cabinet of this size. It is sold as a single piece, so a stereo pair requires two.

Why the 3-Degree Slant Matters

The Model Seven stacks a 13" woofer, a 5" midrange and a 1" aluminium dome tweeter on a single tall baffle. With three drivers spread over that much vertical distance, the exact angle of the baffle determines whether their outputs arrive at the listening seat in step with one another. The 3-degree tilt is deliberately gentle: the speaker is already 91 cm tall without the base, so only a small rotation is needed to bring the drivers into alignment at a seated ear height. The riser also raises the whole cabinet by roughly 12.7 cm, taking the total height to about 104 cm and lifting the woofer clear of the immediate floor boundary.

Construction & Materials — Heavy-Duty Welded Steel

A Model Seven weighs around 31 kg without its base, so the plinth is a structural component rather than a cosmetic one. KLH builds it from powder-coated heavy-gauge steel with welded joints, finished in matte black so it reads as a shadow line beneath the wood veneer rather than as a separate object. The mass and rigidity keep the cabinet planted and prevent the base from resonating with the woofer.

  • Material: Powder-coated heavy-gauge steel — rigid enough to carry a 31 kg cabinet without flexing
  • Construction: Welded frame — no bolted joints to loosen under low-frequency energy
  • Finish: Matte black — low-reflectance surface that visually separates cabinet from floor
  • Weight: Approx. 4.7 kg per piece — mass that helps anchor the speaker

Dimensions & Compatibility

The plinth is dimensioned to the Model Seven's 457 mm wide cabinet, sitting slightly inset so the speaker appears to float. Fitting the base also increases the speaker's overall depth, from roughly 248 mm to 311 mm, which is worth checking against the space available before ordering.

  • Dimensions: Approx. 445 mm W x 165 mm H x 297 mm D — matched to the Model Seven footprint
  • Slant angle: 3 degrees upward — fixed, non-adjustable
  • Height added: Approx. 12.7 cm — Model Seven goes from about 91 cm to about 104 cm tall
  • Depth with riser: Approx. 311 mm — against roughly 248 mm for the bare cabinet
  • Quantity: Sold as a single unit — two pieces are required for a stereo pair

Setup Notes — Handling and Placement

Fitting a riser under a 31 kg speaker is a two-person job; tipping the cabinet rather than lifting it fully is the safest approach, and it is worth protecting the veneer during the process. Once mounted, the Model Seven is more forgiving of room placement than most large floorstanders thanks to its sealed cabinet and wide baffle, but a little experimentation still pays off.

  • Installation: Two people recommended — the cabinet is heavy and the veneer is easily marked
  • Wall distance: The sealed design tolerates near-wall placement — move the speaker out gradually to trade bass weight for soundstage depth
  • Floor: Level, load-bearing surface — check the plinth sits flat and does not rock before releasing the cabinet

Who Is This Riser Base For

This is a factory service part, aimed at Model Seven owners who need to replace a damaged or missing base, or who bought a used pair that arrived without stands. Because it is the genuine KLH component, the fit, the angle and the finish match the speaker exactly — something no universal stand can promise for a cabinet of this shape and weight. As with the rest of the range, it is priced and shipped per piece, so a stereo pair means two units.

KLH and the Acoustic-Suspension Legacy

KLH was founded in the 1950s by Henry Kloss, the engineer who introduced the acoustic-suspension loudspeaker and demonstrated that a sealed enclosure could produce genuinely linear bass. The Model Seven is the current flagship expression of that idea: a 3-way, 13" sealed design with a structurally reinforced MDF cabinet, book-matched veneers and a three-position acoustic balance control. The slant riser base is how KLH intended it to stand — part of the speaker, not an accessory bolted on afterwards.
