Modal Electronics Cobalt 8X Synthesizer Blue

Combining the extended virtual-analogue synthesis of the Cobalt series with a 61-key FATAR keybed featuring full velocity and channel aftertouch, Cobalt 8X delivers warm and powerful analogue-style sounds at a larger scale. Up to 64 high-resolution virtual-analogue oscillators per patch — up to 8 per voice — draw on sine, pulse, triangle and sawtooth waveforms, processed through 31 resonant filter types including both morphable and static variants for precise tonal control across all 8 voices.

Modulation Architecture

Three dedicated envelope generators for AMP, MOD and FILTER, three audio-rate LFOs with tempo sync, eight assignable modulation slots and four fixed modulation routings create a flexible and deep modulation environment. MPE support extends these expressive options to per-note data from compatible controllers.

Sequencer, Effects and Display

Cobalt 8X integrates a 512-note real-time/step sequencer and 32-step programmable arpeggiator, alongside an OLED display for instant visual parameter feedback. The three-slot FX engine covers Drive, Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, Tremolo, LoFi, Rotary, Stereo Delay, Ping-Pong Delay, X-Over Delay and Reverb, with 500 patch slots available for sound storage.

Build and Connectivity

The road-ready steel and aluminium chassis measures 885 × 300 × 100 mm and weighs 9 kg. Connectivity includes USB, MIDI In/Out, dual 1/4" TS line outputs, a 1/4" TRS headphone output and a stereo audio input. MODALapp enables full software-based editing and patch management.
