Badly Drawn Boy is the stage name of Damon Michael Gough, an English indie singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born in 1969. Inspired by a character from the show The Magic Ball, he adopted his distinctive moniker after seeing the program at a party in Greater Manchester. Early in his career, Gough made one-of-a-kind business cards featuring artwork by his nephew and his own collages. A chance meeting with Andy Votel at a Manchester bar led to the creation of Twisted Nerve Records, which helped launch his career. Known for blending heartfelt songwriting with a conversational live style, Badly Drawn Boy was recognized by Q magazine as an essential live act to see, partly for his unique approach to performing.
