Brushes are designed for softer playing, swishing textures, and controlled dynamics that standard drumsticks cannot offer in the same way. They are most often used in jazz, acoustic music, quieter concerts, and the studio, where details matter. When choosing, consider the material, retractable mechanism, stiffness of the wires or fibres, and feel in the hand.
