Eluveitie is a Swiss folk metal band from Winterthur, Zürich, formed in 2002 by musician Chrigel Glanzmann. Originally beginning as a studio project, the group quickly evolved into a full band following the success of their first demo, Vên, released in 2003. Blending melodic death metal with traditional Celtic melodies and instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes, Eluveitie creates a unique sound characterized by both clean and harsh vocals. Their lyrics draw heavily from Celtic mythology, often written in the ancient Gaulish language. After signing with the label Nuclear Blast in 2007, Eluveitie gained international recognition with the release of their album Slania in 2008. The band’s name is inspired by an ancient Etruscan inscription referencing the Helvetians.
