Howard Shore is a Canadian composer, conductor, and orchestrator best known for his acclaimed film scores, particularly for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, which earned him three Academy Awards. Shore has scored more than 80 films and is a frequent collaborator of director David Cronenberg, having worked on nearly all of Cronenberg's films since 1979. He has also composed for major directors like Martin Scorsese. Beyond film, Shore has created concert works including the opera The Fly. He was the original musical director for Saturday Night Live and has received multiple honors, including Golden Globe, Grammy, Genie, and Canadian Screen Awards.
