Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1965 and became one of the leading pioneers of psychedelic rock. Known for shaping the San Francisco Sound, they achieved international success and headlined historic music festivals like Monterey Pop, Woodstock, Isle of Wight, and Altamont. Their 1967 album Surrealistic Pillow defined the Summer of Love, featuring iconic tracks Somebody to Love and White Rabbit. The classic lineup included Marty Balin, Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, and Spencer Dryden. After splitting in the early 1970s, members went on to form Hot Tuna and Jefferson Starship. Jefferson Airplane was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.
