The xx are an English indie rock band from Wandsworth, London, formed in 2005. The group features Romy Madley Croft on guitar and vocals, Oliver Sim on bass and vocals, Jamie Smith (Jamie xx) handling beats and production, and formerly Baria Qureshi on keyboard and guitar. Their music is recognized for its minimalist style, combining elements of indie rock, electronic, pop, and dream pop, with atmospheric soundscapes, echoed guitars, and dual vocals. After gaining attention online, The xx released their debut album, xx, in 2009, winning the Mercury Prize and earning widespread critical acclaim. Qureshi left after the first album, and the band continued as a trio, releasing two more celebrated albums, Coexist in 2012 and I See You in 2017, both reaching number one in the UK charts. Jamie xx also found success with his solo work, most notably the 2015 album In Colour. The xx are known for their understated yet emotive sound and distinctive musical identity.
