Embroidery yarns

Embroidery thread forms the surface of the stitch and must match the fabric, needle, and chosen technique. Embroidery floss separates into individual strands, pearl cotton is used whole, and metallic thread requires shorter lengths and more patience. Choose colors by code, not merely by how they look on a screen. For a larger design, set aside enough thread from the same dye lot.

The number of strands changes coverage

  • One strand creates fine details.
  • Two to three strands create a standard cross stitch according to the fabric count.
  • More strands produce a fuller surface but require a larger needle eye.
  • Pearl cotton is not divided and creates a more pronounced, textured stitch.

Separating without knots

Cut a suitable length, pull out each strand separately, and then combine them again. The thread will twist less. Use a shorter length and an eye that does not abrade the thread when working with metallic fibers.

Organizing colors

Wind leftovers onto a labeled organizer and preserve the color code. You can find broader embroidery equipment under Sewing / Embroidery; Tailor's Measuring Tapes handle measurements, while general sewing thread is available under Threads.

Finished embroidery

Adapt cleaning to both the fabric and thread. Protect light colors from dust and prolonged sunlight. Iron from the reverse through a protective layer at a temperature suitable for the material.
