Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Tumba, formed in 1992. Named after a volcano from J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, the band is known for lyrics inspired by Viking mythology and history. While sometimes called Viking metal, they describe their style as melodic death metal. The lineup features Olavi Mikkonen on lead guitar, Johan Hegg on vocals, Ted Lundström on bass, Johan Söderberg on rhythm guitar, and Jocke Wallgren on drums. Amon Amarth has released twelve studio albums, including their breakthrough Twilight of the Thunder God, and is recognized as one of the leading acts in their genre.
