Beggars Opera

Beggars Opera

Beggars Opera was a Scottish progressive rock band formed in Glasgow in 1969. The group was founded by guitarist Ricky Gardiner, vocalist Martin Griffiths, and bassist and flautist Marshall Erskine, who first met while working together in England before returning to Glasgow. They completed their lineup with keyboardist Alan Park and drummer Raymond Wilson. After honing their sound during a residency at the Burns Howff club in Glasgow, Beggars Opera gained recognition touring Europe, especially in Germany, where they appeared on the prominent TV show Beat-Club and played at the first British Rock Meeting in 1971. The band became known for their dynamic live performances and progressive musical style.
