Big Thief is an American indie folk band formed in Brooklyn in 2015. They are known for their intimate songwriting and dynamic sound, led by Adrianne Lenker along with Buck Meek on guitar and James Krivchenia on drums. Original bassist Max Oleartchik was with the group until 2024. Big Thief released their debut album, Masterpiece, in 2016, followed by Capacity in 2017. After signing to 4AD, they gained widespread acclaim with U.F.O.F. and Two Hands, both released in 2019. Their fifth album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You, arrived in 2022, earning another Grammy nomination and international recognition. The band is celebrated for its emotional honesty, innovative folk-rock approach, and consistently praised releases.
