black midi were a London-based rock band formed in 2017, known for their experimental fusion of math rock, progressive rock, post-punk, and avant-jazz. Led by Geordie Greep, Cameron Picton, and Morgan Simpson, with early member Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin and frequent collaborators Seth Evans and Kaidi Akinnibi, they quickly became a key part of the Windmill scene. Their debut album, Schlagenheim, released in 2019 on Rough Trade Records, earned critical acclaim and a Mercury Prize nomination. Noted for their intense and unpredictable sound, they released two more acclaimed albums, Cavalcade in 2021 and Hellfire in 2022, before entering an indefinite hiatus in 2024 as members pursued solo projects and new collaborations.
