Coroner is a Swiss thrash metal band from Zürich, originally formed in 1983 and solidified with their classic lineup in 1985. Known for their intricate blend of thrash metal with influences from classical music, jazz, progressive rock, and industrial sounds, Coroner developed a reputation for technical musicianship and complex songwriting. Often described as "the Rush of thrash metal," they are regarded as pioneers of technical thrash alongside bands like Voivod and Watchtower. Although they initially had limited recognition outside Europe, their influence has grown over time. After splitting up in 1996, Coroner reunited in 2010 and have been active on the live circuit since, working on new material as of 2023—their first studio album in over thirty years. Notable for albums like No More Color, Mental Vortex, and Grin, Coroner’s progressive evolution and refined sound have left a lasting mark on the genre.
