Craft feathers
Craft feathers let you make carnival masks, headbands, dreamcatchers or seasonal decorations. Here you can find fluffy marabou feathers, long Indian feathers, natural guinea fowl feathers, goose feathers with firm quills and peacock feathers. Most are dyed in rich colours, while mixed packs bring together feathers of different lengths and colours. The range includes Knorr Prandell, Meyco and Heyda, and the manufacturers state that their feathers are ethically collected.
Which craft feathers should you choose for a mask or dreamcatcher?
Marabou feathers are short, soft and fluffy, measuring 5 to 12 cm, and manufacturers recommend them for masks, costumes and accessories. Indian feathers measure 17 to 30 cm, making them suitable for headbands, dreamcatchers and any part of a decoration where you want a feather to stand out from the surface. Goose feathers with firm quills and rounded tips, along with peacock feathers with their distinctive markings, give your decoration a defined line. Naturally spotted guinea fowl feathers add a subtle touch to arrangements, ornaments and scrapbooking projects.
How many feathers are in a pack?
Knorr Prandell marabou feathers come in packs of 15, each approximately 10 cm long, while Meyco marabou feathers come in packs of 17, measuring 10 to 12 cm. Both brands offer individual colours and mixed colour packs. Indian feathers come in packs of 6, 17, 20 or 50, guinea fowl feathers in packs of 8 or 1 g, and peacock feathers in packs of 3. For larger projects, Heyda feather mixes come in 25 or 100 g packs containing feathers that measure 4 to 20 cm.
What else do you need for crafting with feathers?
For a dreamcatcher, you can also use beads, which you thread onto the cord below the feathers. When making animals and masks, combine feathers with pipe cleaners that you can shape into ears, whiskers or a frame. You can find other supplies for decorations, such as raffia, washi tape and coloured sand, among the materials for decorative crafts.
