D O A is a pioneering punk rock band from Vancouver, Canada, widely recognized as one of the founders of hardcore punk alongside groups like Black Flag and Dead Kennedys. Their influential album Hardcore 81 is credited with helping define the hardcore punk movement. Led by singer and guitarist Joey Keithley, the sole original member throughout the band's long career, D O A is known for their uncompromising political stance and activism, supporting causes such as anti-racism, environmentalism, and freedom of speech. Their slogan, Talk Minus Action Equals Zero, reflects their commitment to social engagement. Over the years, they have collaborated with Jello Biafra and released music on his Alternative Tentacles label, including the joint album Last Scream of the Missing Neighbors. Keithley also founded Sudden Death Records, which features releases from D O A and other influential Canadian punk bands.
