Alex Zhang Hungtai is a Taiwanese-born Canadian musician and actor known for his experimental approach to music. Recording under the names Dirty Beaches and Last Lizard, he first gained attention with his atmospheric lo-fi albums released on cassette labels, before the critically acclaimed Badlands in 2011 brought a raw vocal presence to his sound. He later explored new directions with Drifters/Love Is The Devil, blending no wave, jazz, and ambient influences. After ending the Dirty Beaches project in 2014, Zhang shifted towards improvisational and instrumental works, including collaborations with jazz artists and his solo piano album Knave of Hearts. He has also composed soundtracks for films such as Water Park and Who Is Arthur Chu, further showcasing his versatility and restless creativity.
