Floyd Rose String Retainers

Floyd Rose String Retainers are metal bars that sit on the guitar's headstock between the locking nut and the tuning machines. They keep the strings firmly guided towards the tuners, so they do not slip when you use the tremolo and the tuning stays stable. Here you'll find genuine Floyd Rose replacement string retainers for Original tremolos, the 1000 and Special series, By Floyd Rose systems and 7-string guitars. Every retainer comes with screws, so you can replace an old or lost one without needing any additional parts.

What do Floyd Rose String Retainers do?

On a Floyd Rose tremolo, the strings are clamped at the locking nut, and the string retainer behind it presses them towards the headstock. This maintains consistent pressure between the nut and the tuning machines, keeps the strings from jumping out and helps them stay in tune even when you move the tremolo arm sharply. If the original retainer is lost or worn, the new part replaces it directly in the same position.

Which string retainer fits your tremolo?

• Original: for Floyd Rose Original tremolos, made of steel and manufactured in Germany.
• 1000 Special: for Floyd Rose tremolos in the 1000 and Special series, made of steel.
• FR3SR: for By Floyd Rose tremolos.
• 7-String: for 7-string guitars, with 35 mm spacing between the screw holes.

Choose a finish to match the rest of your guitar's hardware. The retainers come in chrome, nickel, black, black nickel and gold, with gloss and satin finishes; the 1000 Special series also includes Antique Bronze and Antique Silver.

String retainer bar or string tree?

The string retainers on this page are for guitars with a Floyd Rose locking tremolo. Guitars without a locking nut, such as Stratocaster-style guitars, have a smaller string guide on the headstock; this is a different part. Complete tremolo systems and other replacement parts are in the Tremolos and vibratos category.
