Footrests

A guitar footstool raises your foot to a suitable height, helping you hold the guitar more steadily while seated without unnecessary tension in your back and shoulders. It is mainly used for classical guitar, but is also useful for acoustic or electric guitar if you play seated for extended periods. When choosing one, consider the adjustable height, stability and folded dimensions.

How do the different types of footstool compare?

What should you consider before buying?

First consider where you will play. A sturdier model is sufficient at home, while a lighter folding footstool is useful for lessons and concerts. Check that it can support your weight and will not slip on the floor. If you also need somewhere to place your instrument, take a look at guitar stands and hangers.

How do you find the right position?

When playing classical guitar, raise your left leg so that the instrument is tilted slightly and the neck points upwards. The correct height depends on your build, leg length and chair height, so continuously adjustable height is useful. Keep your back straight and bring the instrument close to your body so that you do not strain your shoulder. If you experience pain in your wrist or back, try adjusting the footstool height or consult your teacher.

Footstools are part of the guitar accessories category, where you will also find special guitar accessories for less common requirements.
