Shreddage 3 Electro Sitar

The signature sound of the psychedelic era is now available in the powerful Shreddage 3 engine! Shreddage 3 Electro Sitar brings you an instrument that has inspired musicians across genres for decades, featuring the distinctive buzzy tone and resonance of an Indian sitar combined with the playability of a six-string electric guitar. This unique sound is achieved through a carefully designed bridge that creates the signature sitar ‘buzz’ and a set of harp drone strings that can resonate with the main strings or be plucked individually. Experience warm, intense tones perfect for leads and melodies.

The History of the Electric Sitar

In the 1960s, many British and American musicians sought inspiration beyond standard rock instrumentation, discovering the captivating tone and musicality of the intricate Indian sitar. While some, like the legendary George Harrison, dedicated themselves to mastering the traditional sitar, others opted for a more accessible alternative. This led to the creation of the “electric sitar,” an adapted electric guitar that provided rock musicians with a buzzy sitar-like sound in a more familiar format.

Generations of artists, including Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Redbone, Tom Petty, Yes, The Mission, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Van Halen, Lenny Kravitz, Alice in Chains, and Metallica, have incorporated the electric sitar into their music, showcasing its versatility across classic rock, soul, R&B, jazz, fusion, Motown, and even metal.

About Shreddage 3 Electro Sitar

For Shreddage 3 Electro Sitar, we selected an electric sitar inspired by an iconic 1960s design, complete with the distinctive lava-like crackle colorway of the earliest models. Our meticulous recording process ensured full coverage of essential articulations and generous round robins. We aimed to capture the authentic tone, and after extensive testing, we are confident that the resulting sound is exceptional.

The chambered construction of this instrument provides natural resonance, allowing high notes to soar with clarity while the low-end remains warm and open, and the mids are sharp and searing. The electric sitar’s characteristic sound is produced by a unique buzz bridge and resonating harp strings that emulate the sympathetic strings of a traditional sitar. Plus, as a virtual electric sitar, you’ll never have to worry about tuning those finicky sympathetic strings!

Choose between the bridge pickup for a brighter tone or the neck pickup for a fuller sound, or blend both for a unique experience. You can also activate the harp pickup to let the sympathetic strings resonate as you play, or turn it off for the classic buzzy sound of the bridge or neck pickups. Additionally, you can pluck the harp strings individually, a technique favored by many live performers.

If you can play a (virtual) electric guitar, you can easily navigate Shreddage 3 Electro Sitar, but no ordinary guitar will deliver this unique sound!

Articulations

Like the rest of the Shreddage 3 series, Shreddage 3 Electro Sitar features a comprehensive range of guitar articulations. Write for it just as you would for an electric guitar, and you’ll find it functionally familiar, albeit with a distinctive sound.

What truly sets this apart are the harp strings. In addition to using the harp pickup for added resonance, you can pluck these strings individually as an articulation, allowing them to ring out with beautiful clarity.
