In Flames is a Swedish heavy metal band formed in Gothenburg in 1990, originally emerging from the Swedish death metal scene. The group played a key role in shaping melodic death metal alongside bands like At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity. Over the years, In Flames' lineup has shifted, with vocalist Anders Fridén and guitarist Björn Gelotte remaining consistent since 1995. Since Jesper Strömblad left in 2010, no founding members are left in the band. In Flames' music evolved from melodic death metal to a more alternative metal sound, broadening their audience and influence. The band has released fourteen studio albums, including the recent Foregone in 2023, and has sold over two million records worldwide. Their innovative approach and continued success have earned them seven Swedish Grammis Awards, including multiple wins for best hard rock or metal album.
