Kae Tempest is an acclaimed English spoken word artist, poet, musician, novelist, and playwright. A BRIT School alum, Tempest rose to prominence after winning the Ted Hughes Award in 2013 for Brand New Ancients. Their albums Everybody Down and Let Them Eat Chaos earned Mercury Prize nominations, while their novel The Bricks That Built the Houses became a Sunday Times bestseller. Known for powerful storytelling and genre-blending work, Tempest has also received recognition as a Next Generation Poet and has been nominated for major music and literary awards. Tempest came out as non-binary in 2020 and as a trans man in 2025.
