Madlib, born Otis Lee Jackson Jr. in 1973, is an influential American producer, DJ, multi-instrumentalist, and rapper celebrated for his eclectic and sample-rich approach to hip-hop. Emerging from Oxnard, California, he first gained recognition with the group Lootpack before launching jazz-inspired projects like Yesterdays New Quintet. Madlib is known for his groundbreaking collaborations, most notably with MF DOOM as Madvillain on the acclaimed album Madvillainy, with J Dilla as Jaylib, and with Freddie Gibbs as MadGibbs on Piñata and Bandana. A leader in modern hip-hop, he also records under the alias Quasimoto and runs the label Madlib Invazion. His work frequently blends hip-hop with elements of jazz and global sounds.
