Daniel Dumile, known professionally as MF DOOM or simply DOOM, was a British-American rapper, songwriter, and producer celebrated for his complex lyrics, unique flow, and signature metal mask. Born in London and raised in Long Beach, New York, he first emerged in the late 1980s as Zev Love X of the hip hop group KMD. After the group ended following the tragic loss of his brother, Dumile returned in the late 1990s with a mysterious "supervillain" persona, wearing a mask inspired by Marvel's Doctor Doom.
MF DOOM became a central figure in underground and alternative hip hop during the 2000s, releasing influential albums like Operation Doomsday, Mm..Food, and the highly praised Madvillainy, his collaboration with Madlib. He also adopted several alter egos, including King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn, and worked with artists like Danger Mouse, Czarface, and Bishop Nehru.
Known for his enigmatic presence and rarely appearing in public without his mask, MF DOOM left a significant mark on hip hop before his death in 2020. He is remembered as one of the genre's most inventive and influential artists.
