Michael Abels is an American composer known for his innovative film scores and concert works. He gained widespread recognition for his music in the Jordan Peele films Get Out, Us, and Nope, with his hip-hop influenced score for Us receiving major acclaim and being named Score of the Decade by TheWrap. Abels co-wrote the opera Omar with Rhiannon Giddens, which won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Music. His other projects include scores for notable films like Bad Education and Beauty, as well as concert pieces for the Kronos Quartet and violinist Hilary Hahn. Abels is also a co-founder of the Composers Diversity Collective, working to promote composers of color in media.
