Misfits

Misfits

The Misfits are an influential American punk rock band, known for pioneering the horror punk subgenre by combining raw punk energy with themes and imagery inspired by classic horror films. Formed in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey by Glenn Danzig, the band quickly gained notoriety for their aggressive sound and striking visuals. Key releases from their early years, such as Walk Among Us and Earth AD/Wolfs Blood, became foundational to hardcore punk. Despite frequent lineup changes, bassist Jerry Only has remained the group's constant member. The band originally disbanded in 1983, with Danzig moving on to other projects, but their music continued to influence a wide range of artists in punk, metal and beyond. In the mid-nineties, Only and his brother Doyle revived the band with a new lineup and heavier sound, producing albums like American Psycho and Famous Monsters. The Misfits have continued to evolve, periodically introducing new members and sounds. In 2016, a highly anticipated reunion brought original members Danzig, Only, and Doyle back together for selected shows, reuniting what many consider to be the classic lineup. The band’s enduring legacy is marked by their distinctive horror-inspired style and lasting impact on multiple generations of musicians and fans.
