Giovanni "Nino" Rota Rinaldi was an Italian composer, pianist, conductor, and academic, best known for his iconic film scores. Born in 1911 and passing in 1979, Rota created memorable music for the films of Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti, as well as Franco Zeffirelli's Shakespeare adaptations and the first two films of The Godfather trilogy, winning an Academy Award for The Godfather Part II. Across his prolific career, he wrote over 150 film scores and also composed operas, ballets, and orchestral works. In addition to his extensive work in cinema and theater, Rota served as director of the Liceo Musicale in Bari for almost thirty years, leaving a lasting legacy in both film and classical music.
