Pedalboard Bags and Cases

Pedalboard bags and cases protect your pedalboard, multi-effects unit or individual pedals on the way to rehearsals and gigs. Here you'll find soft padded bags, rigid ABS plastic cases and plywood flight cases from Stagg, RockBoard, Gator, Pedaltrain, Boss, Line 6 and D'Addario. Many are designed to fit a specific pedalboard or processor, such as RockBoard QUAD, Pedaltrain Terra, Line 6 Helix or Boss RC-505. Your choice depends on how often you transport your rig and whether you want to leave it in the case while you play.

Soft bag or hard case for your pedalboard?

  • Soft bag (gig bag): lightweight and padded, with a pocket for cables. RockBoard Professional Gigbag has 10 mm padding, a water-resistant RokTex exterior and a plastic panel in the back, while Fender Tone Master Pro Gig Bag has 10 mm padding and dividers for two expression pedals.
  • Hard ABS plastic case: Stagg UPC and RockBoard Professional ABS Case have a hard shell, a foam interior and rubber feet. With Stagg UPC cases, you can attach your pedals directly inside the case using hook-and-loop fasteners.
  • Flight case: plywood with aluminium edging, metal corners and latches. RockBoard Professional Flight Case is made from 10 mm plywood with two butterfly latches, while Pedaltrain Tour Case has ball corners that meet the ATA standard and lockable latches.

If you take your pedalboard to every gig by car, a hard case is a suitable choice. For walking to rehearsals or travelling by public transport, a bag with a shoulder strap is enough.

How do you choose the right size of effects bag?

Internal dimensions matter, rather than the number of pedals. Stagg UPC-424 measures 424 × 226 × 72 mm inside, UPC-500 measures 500 × 255 × 90 mm and UPC-535 measures 535 × 320 × 83 mm, so measure both your board and the height of your pedals before buying. Bags and cases from RockBoard, Pedaltrain and D'Addario Backline Core are designed for a specific board model (RockBoard DUO, TRES, QUAD and CINQUE, Pedaltrain Terra and Metro, D'Addario XPND Core 1 and 2) and fit that particular model. If you're putting together a new pedalboard, you'll find the boards themselves in pedalboards, and you'll also need power supplies for effects to power your pedals.

How can you carry a multi-effects unit or looper?

There are fitted bags for multi-effects units and foot controllers. Line 6 POD Go Shoulder Bag is made from 600D nylon with 15 mm foam padding, while the Gator wheeled case for Line 6 Helix has a raised platform so you can play the processor without taking it out of the case. Boss CB-RC505 is a backpack for the RC-505 and RC-505mkII tabletop loopers, with a compartment for a laptop or tablet, Boss CB-VE22 holds the VE-22 vocal processor along with a microphone and cable, and TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 Gigbag fits both VoiceLive 2 and 3. The universal RockBoard Effects Pedal Bag models are suitable for guitar floor multi-effects units, vocal processors, loop switchers and MIDI controllers from various brands.
