New vinyl September 2026: 8 records for your collection

Summer is behind us and the September vinyl haul is more varied than August. We have a fresh studio album from one of thrash metal's big four, a live record from Linkin Park in their new line-up, two eighties legends in deluxe editions, the twentieth anniversary of one of the most important pop albums of this century, and the debut of a Slovak artist who became the first to reach the US Billboard Hot 100. We picked eight records that have just landed in our shop.

Adéla, real name Adéla Jergová, released her debut album Prima on 4 September through Capitol Records, taking the title from the term prima ballerina, the highest rank a ballerina can reach, a nod to the fact that she started out as a dancer. The record rests on four singles, KGB, Red Bottoms, Ain't in LA and Nicole Kidman, and it was Ain't in LA that became the first track by a Slovak artist ever to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100. Musically it is pop with electropop and R&B leanings, and the lyrics are surprisingly unsparing, dealing with insecurity, toxic relationships, success and the question of who she actually is. The vinyl comes in a limited pink pressing, and since domestic titles are pressed in small runs that never come back, this is exactly the kind of record people hunt for second hand a year later.

When Linkin Park returned in 2024 with Emily Armstrong alongside Mike Shinoda, a large part of the fanbase was waiting to see how it would hold up live. This record is the answer. It is the audio from the film Unshatter, shot at a concert in São Paulo, a city where the band has one of the loudest crowds it has ever played to. Brazilians sing whole choruses for the band and you can hear it on the recording, which makes this more than just another live album. It is the first major live album of this era and proof that old and new songs from From Zero work in the same set. It comes as an indie exclusive on orange vinyl, a pressing you will not find in general distribution.

Anthrax are the one band from thrash metal's big four who always did things a little differently. While the others stayed serious, they cut Bring the Noise with Public Enemy and opened the door to the whole crossover scene. Cursum Perficio is their first studio album after nearly ten years since For All Kings, and the title, Latin for something like I complete my course, suggests this is not a record knocked out between tours. You get exactly what you expect from them, the Scott Ian riffs that will not let you sit still and the voice of Joey Belladonna, recognisable within two seconds. They recorded it at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 and it lands on 18 September. The edition is a gatefold on transparent purple vinyl.

This is not just another acoustic set, it is one of the most powerful things MTV ever broadcast. Alice In Chains played it in Brooklyn in 1996 after nearly three years in which the band barely performed, and it was also one of the last appearances by Layne Staley. That is exactly what gives the recording its weight. Nutshell, Down in a Hole and Would? sound fragile and urgent in acoustic form, the harmonies between Staley and Jerry Cantrell are at times genuinely chilling, and Rooster takes on a whole new dimension. If you own only one unplugged album, it should be this one. It comes on canary yellow 2 LP.

Nothing But Thieves belong to the British bands who built their audience the honest way, from clubs through early-evening festival slots to main stages. Their trademark is the contrast between sharp, almost alt-metal guitars and the falsetto of Conor Mason, who climbs into a register most singers will not attempt. Stray Dogs continues exactly along that line and is an album that works equally well in headphones on the commute and loud in the car. If you collected Broken Machine or Dead Club City, this one slots straight into the shelf. It comes as a gatefold on pink vinyl.

Faith was the album with which George Michael cut himself loose from Wham! and proved he could be a global star on his own. The tour that followed was his first solo run and one of the biggest concert events of the late eighties. On this recording you hear Faith, Father Figure and One More Try delivered by a singer at his absolute peak, with both his voice and the crowd completely under control. Until now this material has been hard to find on vinyl, which makes this edition one of the most interesting September releases. It comes on 180 g bio vinyl in a gatefold, so the sleeve is worth having too.

Face Value from 1981 is the album Phil Collins recorded after his marriage fell apart, and you can hear it in every track. It opens with In The Air Tonight and its drum entry, one of the most famous moments in pop history, which came out of gated reverb, a studio trick discovered more or less by accident. This is also the record that showed the drummer of Genesis could be a songwriter and singer in his own right, and it launched one of the most successful careers of the eighties. This edition is a box set on four 180 g records, so it is not an ordinary reissue but a collector's item.

B'Day came out in September 2006 on the twenty-fifth birthday of Beyoncé, which means it is now exactly twenty years old. She recorded it in a remarkably short time straight after filming Dreamgirls, and perhaps that is why it is her rawest and most danceable record, with nothing on it feeling over-calculated. You get Déjà Vu, Ring the Alarm, Upgrade U and Irreplaceable, the track that spent ten weeks at number one in the US. It is an album sitting somewhere between Destiny's Child and the Beyoncé we know today, which is exactly why it is worth going back to. The anniversary limited edition comes on two 180 g records.
