Stranglers

Stranglers

The Stranglers are an influential English rock band formed in Guildford, Surrey, in 1974. Emerging from the mid-1970s pub rock scene, they became closely associated with the UK punk movement, yet quickly stood out for their eclectic mix of styles, from new wave and art rock to gothic rock and 1980s sophisti-pop. Known for their distinctive sound, shaped by Jean-Jacques Burnel’s melodic bass and Dave Greenfield’s prominent keyboards, their early music featured gritty vocals and sharp lyrics. With 23 UK Top 40 singles and 20 Top 40 albums, The Stranglers have remained a fixture in British music for over five decades. Their best-known hits include Golden Brown, No More Heroes, Peaches, Always the Sun, Skin Deep, and Big Thing Coming. Over the years, the band has undergone several lineup changes but continues to be celebrated for its enduring impact and refusal to fit into any single genre.
