Styx is an American rock band formed in Chicago in 1972, celebrated for their blend of melodic hard rock, acoustic elements, synthesizers, and influences from international musical theatre. Rising to prominence in the 1970s with a progressive rock style, Styx later embraced pop and soft rock in the 1980s. The original lineup featured Dennis DeYoung, James JY Young, John Curulewski, and brothers Chuck and John Panozzo. The band achieved major success with hits like Lady, Come Sail Away, Renegade, Babe, and Mr Roboto, earning multiple platinum albums and scoring eight top ten singles in the United States. Styx became known for their dynamic mix of upbeat anthems and powerful ballads, helping them sell over 20 million records during their peak years. While many hits were written and sung by DeYoung, he has not performed with the band since 1999. Styx remains recognized for their musical versatility and strong chart presence through the 1970s and 80s.
