On a Taylor with 9 V battery-powered Expression System electronics, the battery does not sit loose in the guitar. It rides in a cartridge, and that cartridge is what you pull out and push back in when the battery dies. It is also the part that ends up on the floor at a soundcheck, which is how most of them break.

The Part That Makes the Compartment Work

Without the cartridge the battery box assembly cannot be loaded, so a cracked or missing sled takes the whole pickup system out of service even though nothing electronic has failed. This is the genuine Taylor replacement, Model #7050, so it goes straight into the existing battery box. Swapping it needs no tools and no soldering — which also makes it the sensible thing to keep loaded and ready in a gig bag.
