The Beatles Vinyl LP Records
The Beatles vinyl LPs on this page cover the band's entire catalogue: studio albums from Please Please Me to Let It Be, hits compilations, live recordings and the American releases from the sixties. Much of it comes out as a reissue on 180 g vinyl, while some albums appear in a new mix or as a limited edition on coloured vinyl. If you are just starting out with The Beatles on vinyl, one album or one compilation is enough. Collectors will also find box sets here with several records and a single.
Which Beatles album should you start with?
An easy way into the music of The Beatles is the compilation 1, with the songs that topped the charts, or the pair of compilations 1962-1966 and 1967-1970, known as the Red Album and the Blue Album. If you prefer listening to whole albums, reach for Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band or Revolver, on which the band went all out trying new studio techniques.
Early rock and roll and beat music are captured on Please Please Me, With The Beatles and A Hard Day's Night. You can hear folk rock on Rubber Soul, and the psychedelic period on Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine. The double album The Beatles, known as the White Album, brings together every side of the band, from gentle songs to hard rock.
What do reissue, 2019 Mix, half-speed mastering and gatefold mean?
- A reissue is a new release of the original album; with The Beatles it often comes with remastered sound on 180 g vinyl, which is thicker and sturdier than a standard record.
- A new mix, labelled 2019 Mix on Abbey Road or 2022 Mix on Revolver, was created from scratch from the original multitrack recordings, so it is not just a volume adjustment.
- Half-speed mastering means that when the master is made, the recording is both played back and cut at half speed; Revolver, Rubber Soul and the compilations 1962-1966 and 1967-1970, for example, were released this way.
- Gatefold refers to a fold-out sleeve, found for example on the compilation 1 or on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Why do the American Beatles albums have different titles?
Meet The Beatles, The Beatles' Second Album, Something New, Beatles '65 and The Early Beatles were released in the USA by the Capitol label, with a different selection and running order of songs than the British albums. The box set 1964 US Albums in Mono collects the American albums from that period on eight records in their original mono sound, the way American fans heard them at the time.
Which box sets, singles and live recordings are available?
Rubber Soul and Revolver were also released as Super Deluxe box sets with several records and a single, and the Anthology Collection contains 12 records. Limited editions come on coloured vinyl, such as the red and blue compilations, or as a picture disc with the image printed right on the record, like Revolver. Live performances are captured on Live At The Hollywood Bowl and on the recording of the Shea Stadium concert from August 1965.
The albums play at 33 1/3 rpm and the 7-inch singles at 45 rpm; among the singles is Now and Then, the band's last song, released in 2023. You'll find the same albums on CD on the The Beatles Music CDs page, and the band's records and CDs together are shown on the The Beatles Vinyl LP Records and CDs page.
