The Jesus Lizard is an influential American rock band formed in 1987 in Austin, Texas by David Yow, Duane Denison, and David Wm. Sims. After moving to Chicago and teaming up with producer Steve Albini and Touch and Go Records, they added drummer Mac McNeilly and quickly became a major force in the noise rock scene. Known for their intense, guitar-driven sound and chaotic live shows, they released acclaimed albums like Goat and Liar in the early 1990s. Despite collaborating with Nirvana and signing to a major label, widespread commercial success eluded them, and the band split in 1999. The Jesus Lizard has since reunited for several well-received tours, cementing their legacy as underground icons.
