Tremolo Base Plates

Tremolo Base Plates are the flat metal parts of a Floyd Rose bridge that hold the string saddles and fine tuners. On this page, you’ll find replacement Floyd Rose base plates for the Original, Special, 1000 Series and 1000 Series Pro ranges, as well as separate plates for 7-string guitars. Each range comes in several finishes, from chrome and nickel through black and gold to satin finishes, antique silver and antique bronze. A new base plate is useful when the edges that rest against the mounting studs are worn, or when you want to change the colour of your bridge.

How do you choose the right Tremolo Base Plates for Floyd Rose?

Your tremolo’s range and the number of strings determine which plate you need. Check your guitar’s specifications or the markings on the tremolo to identify the bridge range, then choose a plate with the same range name:

• Original – plates for Floyd Rose Original bridges, with one also available in a left-handed version.
• Special – plates for Floyd Rose Special bridges.
• 1000 Series and 1000 Series Pro – each of these two ranges has its own plate, so follow the exact name of your bridge.
• 7-String – plates with seven saddle positions, only for 7-string Floyd Rose bridges.

Which finish colour should you choose?

Match the colour to the rest of your guitar’s hardware: the tuning machines, locking nut and tremolo arm. Chrome and nickel are bright and shiny, black and black nickel are dark, and gold has a warm tone. Satin finishes are more matte than glossy ones, while antique silver and antique bronze look like aged metal. If you want to match the arm too, take a look at the tremolo arms.

Should you replace just the base plate or the whole tremolo?

A base plate alone is enough when the other bridge parts are in good condition: transfer the saddles, sustain block and fine tuners from the old plate to the new one. If several parts are worn at the same time or you’re building a new guitar, choose from the complete tremolo systems.
