Vinyl Record Cases

Vinyl Record Cases are rigid cases with a handle that let you take your records to a friend's house or a party, or keep them together in one place at home. Here you'll find cases for 12" LPs and 7" singles from Steepletone, Vinyl Tonic, GPO Retro, Renote, Legend Vinyl, Lenco, Reloop and UDG. Most have reinforced corners, locks or clasps and an interior that protects album sleeves during transport. Your choice mainly depends on how many records you want to carry and what material you want the case to be made from.

How many records fit in vinyl record cases?

According to the manufacturers, a case for 12" records holds 30 to 45 LPs. The Lenco TTA-301 holds 30 records, cases from Vinyl Tonic and Renote hold 40, and those from GPO Retro and Steepletone hold 40 to 45 records. The Legend Vinyl LV4 holds 40 records, including double albums, and has a fold-down front panel, so the records tilt forwards as you browse and you don't have to take them out. Gatefold double albums take up more space than single LPs, so allow for fewer records when packing a full case.

Faux leather, fabric or aluminium: what should your record case be made from?

  • Faux leather and PU leather: retro-style cases from GPO Retro with metal edges, Renote, Lenco with a felt-lined interior, and Vinyl Tonic in PU leather, which comes with a velvet brush and a microfibre cloth.
  • Fabric with faux leather trim: Steepletone cases with a sturdy handle and reinforced corners, in many colours, with faux leather trim or a metal edge.
  • Aluminium, steel and wood: Vinyl Tonic cases with reinforced steel corners, a front closure and a lined interior, and the aluminium UDG Ultimate for DJs.

If you carry records often, pay particular attention to the handle, corners and fastenings. Lenco has a metal handle and closure, Renote and Steepletone have reinforced corners, and Vinyl Tonic has steel corners and a front closure.

A case for 7" singles or for a large collection?

There are smaller cases for 7" singles: the Vinyl Tonic 7" holds 35 singles, and Steepletone makes 7" versions of its cases for 40 to 45 records. The Reloop 7" Record Case 150 and UDG Ultimate 7" Record Case 200 are DJ cases for 150 and 200 singles respectively. The Reloop has a detachable shoulder strap and a lid you can use to hold records while you play. Protective sleeves for LP records protect your records before you put them in the case. For a larger collection at home, there are LP record storage boxes, and for playing with 50 to 80 LPs, there are DJ cases.
