Active PA speakers with Bluetooth

Active PA speakers with Bluetooth are stage speakers with a built-in amplifier that let you play music from your phone or laptop without a cable. They suit a band at rehearsals and gigs, a DJ at a smaller party, a wedding, a school or a company event. Here you'll find two-way speakers with 8", 10", 12" and 15" woofers as well as active column systems. Most of them have a microphone input, so you can also talk through them between songs. What size speaker should you choose?

The diameter of the woofer determines how much bass the speaker delivers and how large a space it can fill. Speakers with 8" and 10" woofers are light, fit in a small car and are enough for speech, an acoustic gig or music in a café. 12" is the all-round size for a band or a DJ in a smaller hall. A 15" speaker delivers fuller bass for dance music and larger rooms. If you want even deeper bass, add an active subwoofer to your setup.

Classic PA speaker or column system?

A column system consists of a bass unit and a slim column with several smaller speakers. You set it up in a few minutes without a stand, it takes up little space and it spreads the sound evenly across the room and right to the back rows. A classic PA speaker on a stand plays louder and carries further. Bands and DJs usually use them in pairs, left and right of the stage.

What is Bluetooth in a PA speaker for?

With Bluetooth you can play music from your phone through the speaker: a playlist during the band's break, dance music at a wedding or a backing track for your performance, with no cable running across the whole stage. On some models Bluetooth is also used for control from a phone app, for example volume or EQ. If you want to play music, check in the specifications that the model actually plays audio over Bluetooth.
