Gongs
Gongs are used when you need a long coloured decay, a strong entry or a wide sound surface. They fit percussion, orchestral music, meditation, sound design and experimental kits. You do not choose them like a regular crash or ride; the overall tone, attack and way of playing are more important.
When a gong makes sense
Look at size, mallet type and whether you want gentle waves, deep decay or a dramatic effect. A smaller gong is easier to control in a smaller room, while a larger one can bring a wider and longer sound. If you carry it or use it on stage, also think about safe mounting and suitable accessories.
